A Norfolk man was arrested last week after the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a suspicious vehicle in the Garysburg area.
Captain Brenda Burnette said Sergeant Jimmy Pair responded to Highway 46 and Vincent Loop Road where he noticed a car occupied by two men. He also smelled marijuana and talked with the passenger.
The passenger, identified as Torrey Moore, had rented the vehicle and also took responsibility for a rolled blunt in the passenger seat and a 9mm semiautomatic handgun in the console.
He was charged with carrying a concealed weapon, simple possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Deputies Jonathan Jenkins and Chris Collier assisted, along with Sergeant Tommy Staton of the Gaston Police Department.
Moore was jailed on $6,000 secured bond and has a December 17 court date.
“If no one called it in we would have never got the vehicle,” said Burnette, adding residents can call 911 when they see suspicious activity.
