An argument Friday that led to gunfire also resulted in the arrest of a 32-year-old Enfield man.

The drama unfolded around 5 p.m. at Oliver Drive in Enfield when Deputy R.D. Bozard of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple calls of a fight and two people firing shotguns.

Chief Deputy Wes Tripp said in a press release that reports indicated two homes were damaged by gunfire.

Between seven to 10 people were in the yard and Bozard identified one of the alleged shooters by descriptions given by callers.

Investigation revealed damage by gunfire to 93 Oliver Drive and the homeowner, Steven Reid, told the deputy he and Rodney S. Lynch had an argument. The argument prompted Lynch and another man to attempt to fight Reid, who pulled a knife from his pocket to protect himself.

The men backed off but as Reid went back to his house, Lynch allegedly followed him with a shotgun. Reid got his shotgun and allegedly saw Lynch fire two shots into his house. Reid fired three shots.

Bozard, who determined only Reid’s house was damaged, arrested Lynch, of 143 Oliver Drive, and charged him with firing into an occupied dwelling and injury to real property.

Tripp said investigation continues to determine whether further charges should be filed against both men.
