The Roanoke Avenue Business Alliance and Halifax Community College have formed an alliance that will not only help the organization but students as well.
Main Street Director Sherry Hux announced the partnership at RABA’s monthly meeting today.
The partnership began with a meeting with the college’s Advertising and Graphic Design Department Head Johnnie Rascoe Jr. It has, however, spread to include other departments at the school, Hux said.
The work includes branding for RABA, including a logo. “It will help with our identity and branding,” she said.
The work will also include calling on college students for office help. “It’s a wonderful opportunity for students. It will give students a hands-on experience,” said Hux.
Rascoe said he would meet later with the school’s other department heads. One of his goals is to make a documentary for the project. There will also be revisions to the RABA website. The students, he said, would work on the website.
Rascoe said following the meeting the aim is give the students real work experience.
He said this manpower will go beyond the graphic arts department and will incorporate the school’s computer information systems program, office administration program and the industrial technology program.
In other matters today Hux said the organization would be taking a lead role in the planning of Friday in the Park, an event held at Centennial Park on the last Friday of the month beginning in April. “We’re going to be focusing on local talent. We think it’s going to be a lot of fun. We think you will really enjoy what we have planned for you.”
The concert series will run through July.
