Robert Hurley has announced his retirement as Roanoke Rapids High School principal at the end of the school year, the school system announced in a press release this morning.
Hurley has served as the school’s principal for the past four years, Superintendent Dennis Sawyer said.
“The Roanoke Rapids Graded School District community sincerely appreciates the long hours, dedicated service, and devotion to our students and staff at Roanoke Rapids High School,” Sawyer said in the press release.
Hurley is a native of New Hanover County and received his undergraduate degree in history from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his Master of Arts degree in educational administration from East Carolina University.
His career in education began as a history teacher and coach in New Hanover County, and included leadership positions in Onslow County, Pamlico County, and Nash County.
