A Roanoke Rapids man has been charged twice with performing a sex act in front of children, according to the city’s police department and the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
Roanoke Rapids police charged Darrell Lennox Flemming, 47, of Patsy Albritton Street, with felony indecent exposure for performing the act inside a business in front of a 15-year-old girl and the sheriff’s office charged him with two counts of indecent exposure and two counts of indecent liberties for doing the same act in front of children in the Lincoln Heights community.
The Roanoke Rapids offense occurred on March 18 and the Lincoln Heights offense occurred on March 19.
The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office arrested Flemming on March 19 and Roanoke Rapids police served his warrant at the Halifax County Jail.
Roanoke Rapids police received a call from a citizen that a man inside a local business performed a sex act in front of her 15-year-old daughter.
Detective Sergeant Jeff Baggett investigated and learned Flemming allegedly performed the act.
Baggett learned through his investigation that Flemming was already in jail because of a similar offense that occurred the next day in the Lincoln Heights community.
Major Bruce Temple of the sheriff’s office said Sergeant Randy Keeton responded to a call where multiple witnesses saw Flemming allegedly masturbating in front of two children while speaking to them. Temple declined to discuss what the man allegedly said.
Flemming fled into the woods when Keeton arrived but was quickly apprehended.
He was jailed on $20,000 for the county charges and received a $10,000 bond for the Roanoke Rapids charges. He has a May 22 court date.
