A 40-year-old Roanoke Rapids woman is the second person to be arrested on marijuana charges in a case that is part of a larger dogfighting probe by the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Chief Deputy Wes Tripp said in a news release Erica Gary faces the same charges as Zhaqwaun Gary after a room where approximately 68 marijuana plants were discovered off Stack Powell Road Sunday morning.

They both face charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, manufacture marijuana, felony possession of marijuana and maintain a vehicle, place or dwelling for a controlled substance.

Ms. Gary was jailed on $25,000 secured bond and has a June 5 court date. The relationship between Mr. Gary and Ms. Gary was not immediately clear.

Tripp said this morning it appeared the plants had been growing for a while and based on the charges, law enforcement believes they were allegedly being grown to sell.

The dogfighting part of the probe remains under investigation.
