Why do you want to be sheriff?

I have an earnest desire to serve the citizens of Halifax County as Sheriff; I want to be seen as an investment in the future of your Sheriff's Office and I would like to take on the responsibility for continued forward progress of our agency. I want to build on the successes of those who have served before me, and continue to focus on ways to improve. I want our voters and taxpayers to recognize that I devote my genuine best efforts every day, towards making Halifax County a safer place to live.

If you are not appointed sheriff by the board of commissioners will you still file to run?

I would like to keep all options open and at this point I will be filing.

Knowing this position is only to fill an unexpired term, do you envision making any immediate changes in personnel and administration or do you leave things as they are until after the primary or general election? Please elaborate.

I intend to evaluate all the positions within the Sheriff’s Office to make sure that the citizens of Halifax County are getting the best service from these positions.

What are your goals and objectives in this position?

To be a strong advocate of progressive ideas and continual development. As laws, technologies, and times change, so must Halifax County adapt with new law enforcement strategies, policies, and implementations. To promote teamwork with other law enforcement agencies, county commissioners, other county departments, and volunteer organizations.  To be accountable to the citizens of Halifax County and to hold the staff accountable to the citizens also.  To try to improve the Sheriff’s Office morale by working alongside the men and women that serve Halifax County.  To have the Sheriff’s Office more active in community events and become more involved in giving back to the community. Finally, I hope that the citizens of Halifax County want someone with tested leadership capabilities. I hope that the people who live and work in Halifax County want a Sheriff's Office and a Sheriff who is sincere when he says he wants to fight crime with all available technology, strategies, assistance for all agencies and be more accountable to their wants and needs. I hope that the commissioners and the voters of Halifax County see me as an investment in the Sheriff's Office's and Halifax County’s future, one that will continue to grow and prosper through cooperation, commitment, dedication, information sharing and compassion.
