A Monday morning argument led to assault charges for a Scotland Neck man after he reportedly forced his way into a residence in the Dudley Farm Road area.

Lieutenant Joseph Sealey of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said Gordon Paul Parker Jr., 30, allegedly entered the residence with a pool stick and assaulted a male victim. When he dropped the pool stick he picked up a knife and reportedly tried to assault the male victim and a female victim at the residence around 4 a.m.

Corporal C.E. Carroll arrived at the residence and learned after the first assault attempt, Parker reportedly went to his vehicle to retrieve a shotgun and kicked the door in a second time, threatening the victim.

It is unclear what the motivation in the case was. Sealey said alcohol use, reportedly on the part of Parker, was a factor.

Parker was charged with first-degree burglary, assault inflicting serious injury, communicating threats, assault on a female and injury to personal property.

He was jailed on $5,000 bond and given a November 13 court date.
