The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office has received information on a scam where two residents were contacted through Facebook, giving instructions on how to claim $150,000.

Chief Deputy Bruce Temple said the people were not taken by the scam.

Temple said the scam involves being contacted by a known friend, that includes the picture of the person in a private message.

The message gives instructions on how to claim $150,000 by providing information and sending a Western Union money transfer of $1,000 to begin the process.

The person sending the information was not a registered Facebook friend.

The sheriff’s office will continue to investigate.
