Roads in Roanoke Rapids remained in good condition following a winter ice storm, officials said.

“I think we dodged a bullet,” Public Works Director Larry Chalker said this morning.

Public Works crews stayed out late Tuesday night applying salt and sand to known trouble spots and intersections, Chalker said. “I think we're good on the streets. I think we're in good shape.”

The state Department of Transportation used salt, sand and brine on state roads. “We didn't have a lot of accumulation on the surfaces,” Hasty said.

Chalker did say residents should be aware limbs may fall in the aftermath of the storm.

Police Chief Chuck Hasty said no wrecks have been reported thus far to the department.

The state Highway Patrol reported no wrecks overnight.
