A Roanoke Rapids woman who bilked the victim out of more than $3,000 through identity theft surrendered to the Halifax County Sheriff's Office today.
Detective J.M. Clark said Shaneka L. Richardson, 34, used the name, date of birth and social security number of an acquaintance to obtain cell service and devices from two providers.
The act, according to Clark, left the victim with outstanding debts exceeding $3,000.
Clark began the investigation early last month and charged Richardson with two counts of identity theft and two counts of obtaining property by false pretenses.
She received a $5,000 bond pending a March 18 court date.
