The Roanoke Rapids Police Department reported the following, according to Chief Chuck Hasty:
May 11
Around 3 p.m., Officer Jason Williams responded to Walmart about a larceny.
After speaking with loss prevention, Williams learned that Carrie Mae Johnson, 52, of Roanoke Rapids, had taken items from the store without paying.
Williams arrested and charged Johnson with larceny and possession of stolen property. She was given a $500 bond and June 12 court date.
Around 7 p.m., Officer Jeffrey Mason responded to a welfare check on Jackson Street.
Mason spoke with the victim and noticed she had injuries. Mason arrested and charged Douglas Wayne Braswell Jr., 38, of Roanoke Rapids, for assault on a female.
Braswell was not given a bond because of the domestic nature of the case and has a June 12 court date.
Master Officer Gorton Williams assisted.
Around 8:15 p.m., Officer Adam Salmon responded to Logan's Roadhouse on a disruptive customer call.
After speaking with the manager, he located Michael Ian Stricklett, 23, of Roanoke Rapids.
During the interaction, Stricklett began to use profane language and urinated in front of the officer. Salmon arrested and charged Stricklett with intoxicated and disruptive behavior, indecent exposure, urinating in public, resist, delay and obstruct an officer and assault on a government official.
Stricklett was uncooperative and assaulted Salmon during his transportation to the Magistrate’s Office.
Stricklett was jailed without the opportunity for bond and was held in contempt of court.
Stricklett was given a June 12 court date.
Lieutenant Perry Parks and Sergeant Mike Moseley assisted.
May 12
Around 3:45 p.m., Sergeant Terrence Tyler responded to Walmart on a larceny call.
Loss prevention told him Leslie Michelle Gregory, 48, of Roanoke Rapids, had allegedly taken items from the store without paying.
Tyler cited Gregory for larceny and possession of stolen goods.
Gregory was released until her July 24 court date.
Around 4:15 p.m., Officer Jonathan Benthall responded to Walmart on a larceny call.
Loss prevention told him Brook Edwards Pooley, 31, of Roanoke Rapids, had allegedly taken items from the store without paying.
Benthall cited Pooley for larceny and possession of stolen goods.
Pooley was released until her June 26 court date.
Around 6:30 p.m., Master Officer Mark Peck responded to Walmart on a larceny call.
Loss prevention told him Christopher Blake Barnes, 30, of Skippers, had allegedly taken items from the store without paying.
Peck cited Barnes for concealment of merchandise.
Barnes was released until his June 26 court date.
Around 9 p.m., Officer Patrick Smith responded to an assault call on Jackson Street.
After speaking with the victim and noticing injuries, he arrested Crystal Larandrall Pierce, 29, of Roanoke Rapids.
Smith charged Pierce with assault. She was jailed without the opportunity for bond due to the domestic nature of the case and given a June 5 court date.
Master Officer Gerald Morris assisted.
May 12
Around 10 p.m., Lieutenant Jeff Baggett stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation in the 900 block of Roanoke Avenue.
The driver, Rynell Tyreek Gaines, 27, of Roanoke Rapids, had an outstanding order for his arrest for driving and drug charges and was taken into custody.
During a search, Gaines was found to be in possession of marijuana and an Oxycodone Hydrochloride pill.
Baggett charged Gaines with possession of marijuana, possession of schedule II controlled substance, failing to comply with license restrictions, and failure to stop at a four-way stop.
Gaines was given a $40,000 bond and two court dates — June 12 for the order for arrest and June 8 on the charges from the traffic stop.
Morris assisted in this traffic stop.
May 13
Around 3:15 a.m., Morris arrested William Tyrone Biggs Jr., 39, of Roanoke Rapids ,on outstanding warrants from Nash County.
Biggs was wanted on four counts of trafficking in opium,heroin,or opiates.
The investigation and warrants were handled by the Nash County Sheriff’s Office.
Biggs was given a $100,000 bond and a June 5 court date in Nash County.
May 14
Around 3 p.m., Williams responded to a larceny call at Walmart.
Loss prevention told him Paula Spence Copeland, 45, of Gaston, had allegedly taken items from the store without paying.
Williams arrested and charged Copeland for larceny and possession of stolen goods.
Copeland was given a July 14 court date.
May 15
Around 1 a.m., Officer Ryan Cross conducted a stop on East 10th Street for a traffic violation.
During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the driver, Eric Lamont Clemonts, 36, of Garysburg, was intoxicated and wanted by the state of Ohio for child support.
Cross arrested Clemonts for driving while impaired and for being a fugitive from the state of Ohio.
Clemonts was held without the opportunity for bond because of his fugitive status.
He was given a June 5 court date on the driving while impaired charge.
Sergeant Richard White and Smith assisted in the traffic stop.
