A 16-year-old Roanoke Rapids boy has been charged with calling in a bomb threat to Kipp last week.

Gaston Police Department Officer Thomas Staton said Silas Damarco Powell was charged with making a false report of a bomb to a public building.

There was no determined reason why he reportedly made the threat, Staton said.

The threat that there were three bombs inside the school was made between classes while Powell was at school, Staton said.

Powell, who was jailed on $10,000 bond and remains in custody, was expelled.

He has a May 21 court date.

Numerous law enforcement agencies participated in the investigation, including the Virginia State Police, Halifax and Northampton county sheriff's offices, Garysburg, Roanoke Rapids and Petersburg police.
