A Roanoke Rapids man was charged with possession of a weapon while intoxicated after reportedly firing several rounds into the air and one across the street Saturday night.
A victim struck during the matter was treated for a graze wound and released by EMS at the scene, Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Chuck Hasty said. An unoccupied vehicle was also struck.
Police seized two weapons from James Thomas Bolton II, 27, and additionally charged him with assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm with the city limits, damage to property and going armed to the terror of the people.
The events unfolded around 10 p.m. when Lieutenant Bruce Norton, Master Officer Mark Peck and Officer Jason Williams responded to the 500 block of Whitaker Street on a shooting call.
A victim, with a graze wound to the side of the body, told officers Bolton tried to break up an argument between two people by firing a gun. The nature of the argument or why Bolton reportedly intervened was not immediately known.
Bolton received a $2,500 bond and August 21 court date.
