A disagreement is behind a Saturday night drive-by shooting in which a 13-year-old was injured, the detective investigating the case said today.
Detective Willie Murphy Jr. of the Halifax County Sheriff's Office said in a statement the man allegedly responsible for the Thelma Road shooting, Shermarquette Bernard Whitaker, surrendered Sunday night and posted $50,000 bond.
Murphy said this afternoon the shooting, in which several shots were fired inside the residence, was apparently the result of a disagreement between Whitaker, 32, and the homeowner. He declined to elaborate.
Murphy charged Whitaker with discharging a weapon into occupied property and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
The juvenile is recovering and Whitaker has an October 21 court date.
