Three people died in a single-vehicle crash outside Scotland Neck Saturday night.

A preliminary report by Trooper T.C. Wood shows the only contributing factor in the wreck was speed.

The crash occurred on Highway 903 just before 7:30 about six-tenths of a mile east of Scotland Neck.

Sheldon Williams, 38, of Scotland Neck, was the driver of the vehicle which ran off the road to the right and struck a tree. The three occupants of the vehicle were trapped inside.

The other two passengers who died in the collision were Marion Williams, 38, of Rocky Mount, and Thomas Sherrod, 44, of Roanoke Rapids.

Marion Williams was the right front passenger and Sherrod was the right, backseat passenger.
