A man barricaded himself in a house for more than an hour today in the 900 block of Cedar Street.
Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Chuck Hasty said the man had outstanding warrants. His name was not immediately available. Police arrived around 11 a.m.
At the scene a woman could be heard talking to the man through a loudspeaker as armed officers waited and listened.
Hasty said two people came out safely and were not harmed.
The man who barricaded himself in the house came out around 12:15 p.m.
Hasty said officers were investigating to determine whether the man was armed. More details will be released later.
