Brittany Nutt has been promoted to sergeant assigned to investigations by Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp.

Nutt becomes the first female detective in the history of the sheriff's office, the sheriff said. “Along with her experience, she will also be beneficial with children and female victims.”

Nutt attended Western Carolina University and received a B.S. in anthropology with a concentration in forensic anthropology and minor in biology.

She worked with the Burke County Sheriff’s Office before coming to Halifax.

“We are fortunate to have a deputy of this caliber working for the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office,” Tripp said.
