Jimmy I. Williams Jr. was taken to the Halifax County Detention Center this afternoon where he will be jailed on $750,000 bond for charges related to a December 11 shooting.

Asked if he had anything to say as he was escorted to a waiting patrol car, he told rrspin.com, “Leave me alone.”

Captain Bobby Martin of the Roanoke Rapids Police Department said Williams, 18, of Gaston, was also served warrants for 14 counts related to motor vehicle break-ins which occurred last year.

Williams was arrested earlier today at Fairfield Apartments after spending more than two months on the lam, mostly in the local area, immediately following the shooting, which occurred in the 100 block of Madison Street.

An investigation began around 8:15 p.m. on December 11 when police received a call a person was shot at East Fourth near Hamilton streets.

Responding officers learned the victim, who was found at East Fourth and Hamilton streets, was shot in 100 block of Madison Street.

Further examination determined the victim was shot and robbed.

A juvenile was also petitioned to court in the case.

A press release on the matter is expected to be submitted Monday.

For the shooting, Williams and the juvenile face charges of attempted murder, robbery with a dangerous weapon and conspiracy.
