Girl Scout Troop 3406 completed the requirements to earn the Girl Scout Silver Award.

The Silver Award is the second highest award in Girl Scouts.

Girls earn the award by focusing on an issue they care about; building a team; exploring their community; picking, planning, and putting their Take Action Project into action; demonstrating an understanding of sustainability and the wider world; and sharing what they have learned with others. For Girl Scout Troop 3406, their passion was sharing the joy of reading with younger children in their community.

Their project focused on getting books into the hands of needy children in Halifax County.

To accomplish this they spent many hours refurbishing an old book shelf and collecting books to fill it. Once they collected enough books from family and friends they chose Rural Health Pediatrics and Dentistry as their distribution site.

Children who visit this office will have an opportunity to select a book from the shelf and take it home for free to read.

Troop 3406 will be holding book drives in the near future to keep their shelf loaded with books for children to choose from.
