A 37-year-old Roanoke Rapids man is in stable condition after being shot in the area of Three Flags store in Weldon this evening.
Halifax County Sheriff Wes Tripp confirmed the victim was shot multiple times. The shooting occurred shortly before 9 p.m.
As of this report, Tripp said there are multiple suspects.
At the scene, dispatchers broadcasted a be on the lookout notification related to the shooting in which investigators are looking for a vehicle described as 1990s Suburban, possibly white, being driven by a heavyset person described as a black male wearing a white T-shirt. The vehicle was possibly headed to Garysburg.
While a sheriff's office investigator and a high-ranking officer within the sheriff's office would not confirm or comment at the scene, at least 11 yellow numbered evidence markers were placed by casings, which littered the store's parking lot and were in the vicinity of a Buick.
The Buick had at least eight bullet holes in the rear windshield.
