Total cumulative positive novel coronavirus cases are now at 200 with 153 patients recovered, the Halifax County Health Department reported this afternoon.

The report is as of midnight Wednesday and reflects 1,242 confirmed cases performed on county residents.

The approximate number of current cases can be calculated by subtracting the recoveries from the cumulative positive results since testing began.

There has been one related death; there are five tests pending; and 1,037 known negative test results.

According to the state Department of Health and Human Services’ COVID-19 dashboard, the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP Code has the highest number of positive cases at 106.

In his afternoon update county Health Director Bruce Robistow said of the trend line he provides in the reports, “The rollercoaster ride continues. A decrease in positives for today’s report keeps our trend line in a downward position. Although the trend line continues to show a downward trend it also shows that COVID-19 is still here and continues to fluctuate daily.”

He continues to encourage residents to practice the Three Ws — waiting 6 feet in line, hand washing and wearing a facial covering in public. “Please also be sure to keep your children’s vaccinations up to date.”
