The Halifax County Department today reported the 23rd death related to COVID-19.

According to the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services ZIP code area database, the death was reported within the Scotland Neck area ZIP code and is the second to be reported within that location.

The state’s congregate living report which was updated Tuesday does not indicate the death was reported from one of those facilities in Halifax County.

The breakdown of the 23 deaths is as follows: 16 within the Roanoke Rapids area ZIP code; three within the Weldon area ZIP code; one within the Hollister area ZIP code; one within the Enfield area ZIP code; and two within the Scotland Neck area ZIP code.

The health department today added six new positive cases bringing the total since testing began in March to 1,182.

On Tuesday the health department reported there had been 1,038 recoveries and 116 current cases. Updated data was not included in this afternoon’s report.

The percent positive of COVID-19 cases shows an increase in the trend over the past week.

The cases categorized by age show the 25-49 and 50-64 age groups represent the largest groups who have tested positive over the past week.

The congregate living data shows the number of positive cases peaked the week of July 4 and the numbers over the past week remain the same.
