The arrest of Keyara Vance of Cedar Hill, Texas, a suburb of Dallas, came as Agent B. Council was conducting a foot patrol in the Taft Street area.

Martin said Vance has no known family ties to the Roanoke Rapids area but said investigators believe she may be tied to a house at 106 Taft Street which was the target of a search warrant executed Tuesday.

Following execution of the search warrant at the residence Tuesday, additional narcotics and surveillance equipment were seized.

The presence of surveillance equipment, Martin said, “Tells me the home is utilized for the sale of narcotics and gives a heads up that law enforcement is coming to do a search warrant.”

In a statement Martin said Council’s foot patrol led him to locate a 2020 Kia Sorrento which was reported stolen from Florida.

Vance was located at the residence which was the target of the Tuesday search warrant.

Council observed two other vehicles in the area with narcotics in plain view which Martin said in the statement “were apparently being used to facilitate drug sales.”

The vehicles yielded trafficking amounts of suspected fentanyl, crack cocaine, marijuana, related paraphernalia and other items Martin said were consistent with the sale of narcotics.

The two vehicles with drugs in them yielded 6.9 grams of fentanyl, 3.8 grams of fentanyl and 2.8 grams of crack.

Martin this morning said he was not at liberty to discuss the target of the residential search warrant. “If they continue to sell narcotics we’re going to come and see you on a regular basis.”

Vance was charged with possession of a stolen vehicle and received a $5,000 bond and March 3 court date.

Taft Street, he said in the statement, is well-known as a drug area. “The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office along with the Roanoke Rapids Police Department have executed search warrants at this home. We will continue to monitor this area due to the ongoing sale of narcotics. We hope through proactive measures we can deter the sale of narcotics in this area so citizens in the area feel safe and secure in their homes.”

The house has been the subject of raids by the sheriff’s office earlier this month and in July, Captain A.M. Harris confirmed this morning.

On December 1 approximately 20 grams of cocaine, 17 oxycodone pills and marijuana was seized.

On December 3 the sheriff’s office served an outstanding order for arrest at the residence and in July Harris confirmed approximately 189 grams of cocaine, 148 grams of marijuana, 64 dosage units of ecstasy, drug paraphernalia, a kilo press and currency counter along with over $13,000 in currency were seized.

In the December and July busts Michael D. Carter of Taft Street was arrested. Dante Sutton was also arrested in the July bust.

Carter has a January 20 district court date and a February 15 superior court date. Sutton also has a February 15 superior court date.
