A Rich Square man died in a single-vehicle crash on Bryantown Road outside Jackson this afternoon, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.

Trooper D.L. Edwards said 21-year-old McCoy Craig Williams Jr. was driving a 1998 Honda Accord about 2 miles outside Jackson when he approached a curve in the road too fast. He ran off the road, struck a mailbox and then several trees. The crash occurred around 3:30 p.m.

Williams, who Edwards said was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle.

The estimated speed at the time of the crash remains under investigation,

Speed and no seat belt are the preliminary contributing factors.
