Phillip Hall Lee, Sr., 82, of Roanoke Rapids passed away Sunday, August 16, 2020 surrounded by his family.
Phillip was born March 23, 1938 in Johnston County, NC to the late Floyd Lee and Cartha Shearin Lee. He was also preceded in death by his son, Bobby Ray Lee; two brothers, Leon P. Lee and Douglas N. Lee; two nephews, Randy R. Tripp and John G. Tripp; his loving wife of fifty years Betty Jane Shearin Lee.
At the young age of 17, Phillip joined the U.S. Navy. While in the Navy he served 3 1/2 years as a seaman.
When he got out of service is when he met his soon to be wife, Betty at church. Phillip was a hard working man, he worked in construction, worked in over-the-road trucking for 20 years and installed irrigation systems.
He was quite the handyman around the house as well. He was a great cook, there wasn’t much that he couldn’t do. Phillip was a family man, a wonderful dad, brother and husband and a good friend to many. He would always lend a helping hand to anyone. Phillip had a passion for gold prospecting, hunting, fishing and growing and working in his garden each year.
Phillip is survived by his children, Brenda Faye Lee, Phillip Hall Lee, Jr., Donna Lee Jones, Terri Hux and his son-in-law, Charles R. Hobbs; two sisters, Ruby Gregory and Linda Tripp; his grandchildren, Swain Browder, Jr. and a special friend Tabitha Moore, Heather Lee, Bryan Garner, Christi L. Browder, Paula Cullom and her husband Joshua, Shane Lee, Tiffany Lee, Kayla Jones, HaLeigh Hobbs; his great-grandchildren; many special friends; his nephews, Bobby Gregory, Wayne Gregory, Thomas Gregory, Shannon Gregory and Leon Lee, Jr.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, August 19, 2020 at Crestview Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Henry Stephens officiating.
