James Louis Saunders, Jr., 79, of Roanoke Rapids, died January 24, 2021 at Vidant North Hospital.

Mr. Saunders was born in Halifax County on June 2, 1941, the son of James Louis Saunders, Sr. and Alice Page Saunders. 

He was a 1959 graduate of Weldon High School, Hardbarger Business College in Raleigh, and he also attended NC State College where he was a member of the JROTC Air Force Cadets.  

Mr. Saunders was a true outdoorsman that enjoyed both hunting and fishing.  He was a self-employed CPA.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Warren Saunders; son, Jason Saunders; grandchildren, Kelson and Justin Saunders; great-grandaughter, Raelynn Saunders; and a brother, Ronald Saunders.

Pastor Sue Owens will conduct a private graveside service for Mr. Saunders, that will be held at Cedarwood Cemetery in Weldon.
