Barbara Maurice Burm Lee, 74, of Roanoke Rapids passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023, at her home.

Barbara was born December 1, 1948, in Halifax County to the late Victor Burm, Sr. and Blanche Cullins Burm. She was also preceded in death by her longtime companion, Louis “Dick” Moore; Shorty Lee; her daughter, Emma Lee; her grandson, T.J. Nelson, her brother, Ronnie Ellis and a longtime friend Peggy Parker.

Barbara was Vice President of “Smiles.” 

She loved helping with handicapped people. Barbara also worked with “Calling Angels.” 

She loved playing cards and reading.

Barbara is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Lee and her fiancé Doug Keeter and his children, D.J. and C. J. Keeter; her brother, Victor Joseph Burm, Jr.; her nephews and nieces, Jeff Ellis and his wife Karen, Cindy Mills and her husband Forrest, Shannon Burm, Walter Burm and Kenny Ray Llaneta and his wife Tammy Cain Llaneta; great nieces and nephews, Cole Ellis, Tori Burm, Sydney Burm, Nicholas Burm and Tiffany Ray Llaneta, numerous other nieces and nephews and longtime friends Betty Newsome, Lynn Pruitt and her husband Steve and The Moore family.

The family would like to give special thanks to ECU Health North Hospital, Halifax County EMS, Dr. Mario Fiorilli, Dr. Camnitz of Greenville, Eastern Medical Transport Belinda and staff, Roanoke Valley EMS, IntelliChoice Home Care of Winterville, numerous nurses, Amy Duke, Bernie Duke, Ashley Turner, Karen Neely, Cheryl Blythe, Linda Carawan, Lisa Pearson and Debbie Anglin.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, January 9, 2023, in the chapel of Hockaday Funeral and Cremation Service with Rev. Matthew Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the Moore Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 – 9:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home and other times at the home.
