A Pleasant Hill man was arrested in connection with a Saturday morning armed robbery at the Pilot Travel Center.

The armed robbery is not connected to one at the Village Grocery Saturday night in Roanoke Rapids, Captain Chuck Hasty of the Northampton County Sheriff's Office said this morning.

In a statement, Sheriff Jack Smith said around 12:30 a.m. deputies responded to the store at Highway 48 and Interstate 95 in Pleasant Hill.

Deputy William James spoke with the assistant manager and clerk on duty at the time of the robbery, telling the deputy that a man later identified as Jermel D. Broady allegedly entered the store wearing a black hoodie and sun glasses.

He came to the counter and asked for a item. After the clerk got the item Broady reportedly demanded the money from the register, saying he had a gun.

The clerk compiled and Broady left the store with an undisclosed amount of cash, heading to nearby woods.

Deputies contacted the North Carolina Department of Public Safety, which sent bloodhounds to assist with tracking.

During the course of James' investigation, he discovered that Broady, 27, had been in the store several times earlier that night.

Sergeant Jonathan Jenkins, deputies Jeff Barnes and Ikseisha Jacobs, investigator Altessie Taylor, along with the Gaston Police Department, assisted with the investigation.

Broady was arrested at his residence in Pleasant Hill around 4 p.m. without incident by Lieutenant Jason Boone, Deputy Patrick Jacobs and Officer Melvin Garner with the Gaston Police Department. Broady was charged with armed robbery and trespassing he was given a $100,000 bond. He is scheduled for a first court appearance today.
