Weldon police are investigating to determine whether a drive-by shooting in Scoco Park Monday is related to one that occurred in Garysburg.

“We're looking at some similarities that makes me believe they could be related,” Weldon Chief Mark Macon said this morning.

Garysburg investigators were at their crime scene as of this report, and were not immediately available to give details, Assistant Chief Melvin Garner said. He did confirm no one was injured.

Two people were shot in the Weldon drive-by at 209 Ransome Circle, a house that has been under constant investigation by law enforcement.

A girl, at least 6-years-old, and a middle-aged woman were both shot in the knees as they visited with others in the living room of the house. The adult was treated and released, while the child remains hospitalized, Macon said. The child was in stable condition when she was transported to another facility outside the area.

People standing outside the house at the time of the shooting were not injured, Macon said.

There is still no word on the motivation behind the shooting, which occurred around 8:30 p.m.

Macon confirmed that authorities are now looking for a dark colored Honda instead of what was initially believed to be a dark colored Chrysler vehicle.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the police department at 252-536-3136 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
