NCSO offers more insight on Enviva standoff

A statement by the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office offers new insight on the circumstances which led a New Hanover County probation absconder to hide in a storage bin on the grounds of a wood pellet plant outside Garysburg Monday.

A Wilmington man who hid in an industrial storage bin on the grounds of a Northampton County wood pellet manufacturing company is in jail on $326,000 bond after he fell late Monday night.

A Wilmington area man listed in state Department of Public Safety records as a probation absconder, as of this report, remains holed up in a storage bin on the grounds of Enviva Pellets outside Garysburg.

Roanoke Rapids man dies in Gaston area crash

A Roanoke Rapids man died Thursday in a single-vehicle crash in the Gaston area.

Brenda Burnette, retired captain with the Northampton County Sheriff’s Office, and currently captain with the Jackson Police Department, has filed to run for sheriff of Northampton County.
