The third annual Arts on the Avenue was held this evening between the 900 and 1100 blocks of Roanoke Avenue.

While the latest update on the search for a breaking and entering suspect believed to still be at large provides no new information, the Roanoke Rapids Police is encouraging parents to be on the lookout for any suspicious person when school lets out.

RRHS senior walk

The Roanoke Rapids High School Class of 2018 took their traditional walk Wednesday through the halls of their former middle and elementary schools.  

More than 100 law enforcement and correctional officers continue to search for a breaking and entering suspect who was shot this morning by a homeowner in the 500 block of Raleigh Street.

Hantz named RRGSD teacher of the year

Chaloner Middle School teacher Tina Hantz was named the Roanoke Rapids Graded District Teacher of the Year Tuesday night during the district’s annual Celebration of Excellence banquet at Kirkwood Adams Community Center.  

A Halifax County Superior Court judge today ruled Gene Arnold “Root Root” Hawkins Jr. is eligible for pretrial release after documents filed in court show he is competent to stand trial in the 2006 murder of Roanoke Rapids businessman Shelby Salmon.
