Despite drawing criticism from residents and some businesses in the immediate area, a Dollar General store proposed for the corner of Roanoke Avenue and Eighth Street does not have to gain a recommendation for approval from the planning board or an OK from city council to be built.

With the prospective buyers of the Roanoke Rapids Theater expected to get loan approval to close on the property, a special meeting of city council has been called for Monday to discuss the matter.

PD seeks help in Ollie's, Walmart larcenies

The Roanoke Rapids Police Department is seeking the public’s help in solving three larcenies, one which occurred Monday at Ollie’s Bargain Outlet Center and two which occurred in the span of about seven-and-a-half hours at Walmart Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

Story center gets name makeover

The Jo Story Senior Center will now be known as Jo Story Senior Center for Active Adults.
