The insurance carrier for the city of Roanoke Rapids settled with a man who is awaiting a superior court date later this month following a 2019 chase in which he was shot by Roanoke Rapids police Chief Bobby Martin.
Roanoke Rapids city officials, other than confirming police Chief Bobby Martin and Captain Jamie Hardy have been placed on unpaid administrative leave, declined to discuss the reasons which led to the decision on Friday due to the constraints by state statutes on commenting on personnel issues.
With daylight saving time beginning at 2 a.m. Sunday, the North Carolina State Transportation Department encourages drivers to prepare for the time shift and be cautious behind the wheel.
