The Roanoke Rapids Police Department is investigating another convenience store robbery similar to others reported last week.
Detective John Taylor said the robbery of the BP station owned by New Dixie Oil Company at 1909 Julian Allsbrook Highway has enough similarities that detectives are investigating a possible connection.
Captain Andy Jackson said shortly before 5:15 Sunday morning a person described as a black male standing 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing 185 pounds with a medium build entered the store.
The man had a T-shirt covering his head with slits cut around the eyes so he could see. He was wearing a black jean jacket with gold lettering, blue carpenter jeans and ark shoes.
The man walked behind the counter and slapped one of the clerks on the back of the head with an open hand and said, “Give up the money or I'm going to cut you.”
The man, who was described as having a dark complexion, left the store on foot and was last seen exiting to the right and running behind the building, which is in the Motel 6, Logan's area.
“Due to the nature of the robberies, we believe the suspect is extremely dangerous,” Taylor said. “We ask citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior at convenience stores. We would like to ask the citizens to help us the best they can and call with possible leads and information no matter how small or insignificant they believe it to be. It could be extremely beneficial.”
Anyone with information is encouraged to call the police department at 252-533-2810 or Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
