The man the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office was looking for in the Heathsville area Monday has apparently stolen a vehicle from that area.
Lieutenant Bobby Martin said a green Ford Ranger king cab was reported stolen from the area this morning.
The truck has a chrome toolbox on the back and North Carolina tags YTX-4518.
Martin said officers worked late in the night looking for a white male standing 6 feet, 5 inches tall with a slender build and short hair. He has facial hair and was wearing dark clothing.
The man, whose name is not known at this time, had apparently tried to break into two cars in the area after the one he allegedly stole from Vance County broke down or ran out of gas Monday.
Martin said the man apparently hid in the woods overnight as the sheriff’s office and state Highway Patrol, using its helicopter, looked for him. “He just laid low in the woods until he felt it was clear to move.”
Law enforcement stayed at scene past 10 p.m. Monday after few sightings of suspicious people in the area were given. “The guys worked hard. He just slipped through. It’s a wide open area.”
