A man in a domestic dispute in the Scotland Neck area was shot in the upper arm by his girlfriend after allegedly breaking into the house Monday night.
Halifax County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrived and learned a subject later identified as Preston Leroy Parker, 26, was at Our Community Hospital being treated for the wound. He was later transported to another hospital for treatment, according to Detective R. Somogyi.
Investigation revealed Parker, of Scotland Neck, went to the residence after threatening to kill his girlfriend and himself.
Parker went to the front door and when his girlfriend did not open it, he allegedly forced the kitchen window open and attempted to crawl inside the house.
The victim, who was in the residence with her 1-year-old daughter, grabbed a rifle and began to yell at Parker, telling him to leave. Parker grabbed the barrel of the rifle as he climbed through the window and attempted to take it from the victim.
During the struggle the rifle fired, striking Parker, who was contacted at Our Community Hospital and found to be intoxicated and uncooperative.
Somogyi obtained warrants charging Parker with first-degree burglary, assault on a female and communicating threats.
Bond will be determined when he is released from the hospital. Parker has an April 4 court date.
