A man already charged in one child sex offense case has been charged again, according to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

Detective John Taylor has charged Cornelius Davis, 55, with first-degree sexual offense for allegedly engaging in a sexual act with a child under the age of 13. He also charged Davis with indecent liberties with a child and first-degree sexual offense in a parental role.

Captain Andy Jackson said the latter charge means he assumed the role of a parent or custodian when the alleged acts occurred between September 1 and September 30.

The child involved, who complained to his mother, is not Davis’s, Jackson said, and is a different victim from the one involved in charges the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office filed against the Roanoke Rapids man.

The sheriff’s office, which assisted in investigation of this case, will serve the warrants to Davis, who remains in the Halifax County Jail. He has a June 27 court date.
