A Thursday morning traffic stop resulted in the arrest of a Roanoke Rapids man on drug charges.
Lieutenant Doug Pilgreen of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Deputy Eric Johnson conducted a traffic stop around 12:30 a.m. at Highway 48 and Sam Powell Dairy Road.
The driver got out of the vehicle and fled on foot. A search with assistance from the Roanoke Rapids Police Department was conducted but it wouldn’t be until an unrelated traffic stop that the man, Frederick Lee Holiday, 37, was caught.
Holiday was apprehended after Roanoke Rapids Officer Duane Daniels made a stop and found him in that car.
Holiday was arrested and charged with trafficking crack cocaine, trafficking cocaine by transportation, possession with the intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana, maintain a vehicle for keeping and selling a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, manufacture a controlled substance, driving while license revoked and resist, delay and obstruct.
Pilgreen declined to say how much crack was seized. Applying trafficking charges for cocaine begins at more than an ounce and a half.
Holiday was placed under a $15,000 bond and has a court date of June 6.
