No charges will be filed against the driver of a vehicle who struck and killed a 42-year-old woman Thursday morning on Country Club Road.

Captain James Avens of the Weldon Police Department said he also made contact with the mother of the victim, who was identified as Vanessa Mayfield.

Mayfield was walking north on Country Club Road around 2:30 a.m.

A vehicle traveling south on the road passed a slower moving vehicle in a passing zone and struck the woman, who was taken to Halifax Regional Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.
