An inmate scheduled for release from the Halifax County Jail was sent back after a jail supervisor found marijuana in his property bag Friday.
Detective R. Somogyi of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said Captain Wayne Silver was removing an item from Donte Caudle’s bag when he discovered the pot.
Caudle, 19, of Rocky Mount, had requested an item needed for court. While Caudle was in court the marijuana was discovered.
The outcome of the court case would have meant Caudle’s release from jail had the contraband not been found, Somogyi said.
Caudle was charged with possession of a controlled substance in jail and felony possession of marijuana.
He was placed back into jail under $15,000 bond and has an October 17 court date.
