What witnesses described as a shootout left one man hit twice and hospitalized.

The so-called shootout occurred around noon in the area of Washington Avenue and 11th Street in Weldon, commonly called The Strip.

Lieutenant Bobby Martin of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded to a shooting call and discovered one person was struck. The 18-year-old man from the Weldon area was taken to a hospital where he is recovering, Martin said.

Witnesses told investigators the men began shooting at each other in front of Three Flags store.

Martin said a white Cadillac may have been involved and it appears the two may have had an ongoing dispute.

The sheriff’s office continues to investigate and anyone with information is encouraged to call Crimestoppers at 252-583-4444.
