A tan Nissan Altima may have served as the getaway car in an early Saturday morning assault, according to the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

Deputy Chief Tommy Hathaway said Detective Daniel Hundley interviewed the victim, who is awake and alert, and learned a few more details about the assault.

The victim told Hundley he was standing at the corner in the 100 block of Madison Street when a man walked from across the street and asked him a question.

The assailant apparently did not like the answer and began to beat on the victim.

A vehicle described as a tan Altima rolled up about the time the encounter began and the assailant jumped into the car afterward.

The assailant was described as a stocky black male wearing a white T-shirt. There were two other men in the Nissan.
