At approximately 6:30 Saturday morning, a tractor-trailer carrying logged timber overturned on Highway 48 in front of Hardee’s in Gaston.

The Gaston Volunteer Fire Department said in a press release emergency crews quickly arrived on scene to find the driver of the log truck unharmed.

The rig leaked large amounts of oil and antifreeze along the highway and dumped a load of logs on Hardee’s grassed property.

Members of Gaston Fire & Rescue had to contain the leaking fluids while logging crews had to use a log loader to remove the timber.

Once the logs had been cleared from around the tractor-trailer, crews from Redwine’s used two wreckers to upright the overturned truck.

The wrecked rig was towed away and another tractor-trailer was brought in to take the load of logs.

Crews remained on scene for approximately four hours and during that time traffic was delayed.

The state Highway Patrol is currently conducting investigation.
