A Roanoke Rapids girl was charged with assault and damage to property Wednesday night after she allegedly punched and slapped a woman who struck a 21-year-old man with her vehicle.
The man who was struck by the car, 21-year-old Terry Louis Kearney Jr., was arguing with a woman on the shoulder of 105 Madison Street when he was pushed by the woman he was arguing with and fell into the roadway, Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Jeff Hinton said.
After Kearney was struck by the vehicle, Dondril Lena Powell, 17, allegedly struck the driver of the car, breaking her glasses. Powell was taken to the Halifax County Jail.
Because Kearney, who was hospitalized, was pushed into the roadway, the driver of the vehicle that struck him will not be charged, Hinton said.
