The Halifax County Law Enforcement Association works behind the scenes to help the community.
On October 28 the organization, whose members range from deputies to wildlife enforcement officers, will be holding the Fall Brawl Battle of the Bats to raise funds to continue its charitable work.
“In the past we’ve sponsored softball teams, basketball and other youth activities,” said Wes Tripp, treasurer of the association and an officer within the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
Most recently the association supported members affected by the August 25 flooding. It also helped one person who was not a member. “We do Christmas projects for needy kids and other fundraisers so we can support and help different people in Halifax County,” Tripp said.
One of its fundraisers will be on September 21 at ProBuild to support the Roanoke Rapids Hornets midget football team with a meal that includes two pork chops and vegetables.
The Battle of the Bats begins at 8:30 a.m. at Chockoyotte Park. It is a 10-team double elimination tournament and the registration fee, $200, will be used to fund different charitable events.
Concessions will be available, including breakfast and lunch.
There will be a 30-minute worship service beginning at 11:30 a.m. for those wishing to attend.
Trophies will be awarded for first, second and third place.
