The Seaboard Police Department is investigating yet another shooting death, the second this weekend, the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald of Ahoskie reported this evening.

Today, Seaboard police and other law enforcement agencies were working a crime scene behind a residence on Highway 186 (East Central Street). The male victim’s body, covered with sheet, was laying on the railroad tracks.

Sunday’s deadly shooting comes on the heels of a home invasion Friday night in Seaboard where a 17-year-old male was shot and killed.

“It’s a tragedy,” said Northampton County Sheriff Wardie Vincent, who was at the scene.

Vincent said his agency was helping Police Chief George Reed cordon the area. He said Reed had called in the SBI to assist on the case.

The SBI Crime Scene Unit, CSX Railroad Police and Northampton Emergency Management were also visible at the scene on Sunday afternoon, which was cordoned off with yellow tape. Tents were also brought in to help preserve the scene and evidence.

There are no reports as of this time concerning arrest(s) in this case.

Vincent added several homes on Pine Street, located on the opposite side of the railroad tracks, were struck by bullets.

Dianah Boyd, whose home is near the railroad tracks on Pine Street, said she heard “a series” of gunshots between 10 and 11 a.m.

“It sounded like a machine gun,” she said.

Boyd estimated her home was struck 12 times, two of those bullets breached the walls of her single-wide trailer. One bullet lodged in her refrigerator while another passed through her kitchen, living room and one bathroom wall before it was stopped by the opposite bathroom wall.

Boyd was in the back room of her home when she heard the gunshots.

“I went outside to bring my dog in,” she said.

Boyd and her dog escaped uninjured.

The home of Boyd’s sister, who lives next door, was also struck by bullets. The home of Boyd’s other neighbor was also struck. A shattered door window was visible from Boyd’s residence.

The Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald has contacted Chief Reed and will provide more details as they become available.
