The victim of a March 6 fire died early this morning at the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center in Chapel Hill, his nephew said.

David Nowell was on life support since he was transferred to the hospital following the fire, Justin Davis told rrspin.com this afternoon.

He was taken off life support two to three days ago. He died this morning at approximately 2:10.

Davis said the family is working on funeral arrangements.

Fire gutted the trailer in Colonial Mobile Home Park where Nowell lived. He was apparently smoking while on oxygen.

Firefighters retrieved four small oxygen bottles and a 4-foot bottle from the debris left inside.

The fire department received the call shortly before 5 p.m. and found the front of the mobile home, located at 362 Colonial Drive, engulfed.

Firefighters from Davie and Rheasville, which also responded, got the fire under control in about 10 minutes, despite heavy winds fueling the flames.
