New information released this afternoon shows that Michael Scott Hamilton also allegedly beat a man who tried to intervene in a Saturday night baseball bat assault on an Emporia, Virginia, woman.
Hamilton, 31, of Roanoke Rapids, was later arrested and charged with attempted murder in the beating of the woman and further charges are pending.
Lieutenant Scott Hall of the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office described the attack as a domestic assault on the woman, who was Hamilton’s former girlfriend. It took place following an argument between Hamilton and the victim on Pinewood Road, which is located off Colonial Drive.
Hall said in a press release a Roanoke Rapids man who tried to intervene was assaulted and taken to Halifax Regional Medical Center where he was treated and released.
The female victim, who was assaulted in the head, remains in stable but critical condition at an undisclosed medical facility.
Hamilton is being held on $250,000 bond.
