The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office is attempting to locate the owners of weapons confiscated over the last few years.
Major Bruce Temple said the weapons have been recovered from crime scenes and it is possible they could have been taken from breaking and entering cases.
Temple said in a press release the serial numbers for these weapons have been run through national databases so if a person reported them stolen and had the serial numbers, these will not be theirs.
If a person believes that any of these weapons are theirs, they will need to provide proof of ownership, to include the serial number.
Any person providing the proof of ownership must pass a required background check before the weapons can be released.

The weapons will be held for 30 days to attempt to locate rightful owners. After 30 days a court order will be obtained to dispose of the weapons.
